I didn't get voted 'coolest powers' for no reason, you know.
[ Flipping her hair theatrically. Oh, right, he wasn't here for that. Devon would've thrived during school uniform kink month. With a perky smile, ]
Thanks.
[ They proceed to be followed by a helpful, unthinking shadow helper. ]
I don't really get to use it much here? [ except for cough sex cough ] I've used them to make gifts for some people, though. They're always so amazed when I tell them what they're made of. Do you want anything?
[Shadow dildos? Why's that the first thing on his mind as he winds back through the corridors, glancing back ever so often to her weirdly ghibli coded shadow-being.]
Do you feel anything when someone touches them or- anything?
Anything, pretty much? As long as it's all physical. So like, I can make something that looks just like a TV, but my shadows can't make any of the stuff that makes it actually work like a TV. Or even like one of those flashlights I used to carry around - I can make the whole thing, but not the parts that produce light. And so on and so on.
[ But yes, shadow dildo. ]
Nope, I don't. I've used them enough to be pretty aware of what they're doing and how they're interacting with stuff, but... if you break one, it's not gonna hurt me. Unless you break it while I'm inside it, anyway.
[ Like that stupid hellhound last year. Blegh. ]
They're not alive or anything. They can't move on their own unless I make them. It's a bit like I'm ordering them in my head, or just putting down some telepathic-programming so they do what I need them to. Easier to command a bunch at once that way.
[He's thinking thinky thoughts and most of them are still dirty but there are a few average ones in there, ones about learning his not-sister's powers. The extent they can go to and perhaps the problems they might face in case he ever needs to help.]
Sometimes I'm jealous of you guys with like, active... tangible powers. I just heal.
[ She stretches out one arm, shadow layering around it like a living, growing glove. It stops at her shoulder, kept on in case Devon wants to touch and remind himself what it's like. ]
It's supposed to be impenetrable, but… found out it isn't. The hard way.
[ Fingers wiggle like she's playing a scale on the piano and it's gone. No shadow, just skin and clothes and manicure. Her voice softens with unpleasant memories. ]
Don't be jealous. Wish I'd had your power last year. Almost died because these things couldn't protect me.
[ She seems to not have much of a reaction, save for the fact that Devon's very intently feeling her arm. Her shadows. ]
… someone did this ritual that caused an earthquake. Summoned a hellhound, and I thought I could fight it off when I crossed its path, but then its teeth like — melted through my shadows or something? I just remember it biting down on my shoulder until it popped. I got a bunch of burns, too. [ pause. ] There was nothing I could do. It's kind of amazing that I didn't die.
[Believe it when he sees it, he goes on over to investigate - looking around inside Blockbuster with the eyes of someone who, 17 in 2011, did indeed remember these sacred grounds.]
Does it? [ Laughing, amused and a little puzzled that that's something he'd remember. The shadow-carrier follows them around. ] Okay, so we're getting I know what you did last summer, right?
I think so. You get that one while I get the other? [ The shadow-construct stops just then, waiting for them to reunite whenever they grab their respective DVDs. One mini time-skip later, ] So you're into all those movies?
Oh, Final Destination's good. [ Wincing a little. ] Yeah, I bet you could play a drinking game with the whole franchise. Drink every time one of those fucked up things have happened to you.
Yeah, sort of. The closest we got to one was back in February, with the pseudo-zombie apocalypse? Saber and I fought off a bunch, but I had totally different powers. That sucked. I don't think there's really been anything like that since, just — fanfic lives and lockets of death.

What happened, exactly?

[But... the way he looks up at her is kinda impressed. Little smirk, glint to the eyes.]
How'd you piss off a hellhound? Are they still around? How do we summon one.
no subject
[ Forever and ever. ♥︎ ]
Pretty sure they're just born pissed off. And we don't, Devon. They suck.
[ Sorry August. ]

[He'd be such a chew toy.]
They're not still around, are they? Did someone else kill it?
no subject
[ He will still get rekt, and she'll still hate to see it. ]
No… they got un-summoned or something. I hate that it kinda looked cool. Monsters suck, Devon.
no subject
[If you control them, they won't suck. New goal: control a monster.]
Ugh. Here I thought there was something cool going on.

[ Such as: grabbing a movie or two from the house's own Blockbuster, which Syd wrote and I'm linking for my own convenience. dabs ]
It's that narrow door over there, right?

Aw, shit. Even smells the same in here.

Final Destination's my favorite live action horror. Probably because it doesn't really scare me. And some of that stuff has actually happened to me...

[ Which I haven't watched yet, somehow ]

Yeah? Do you like it with sub or dub?
[He laughs after that, nodding.]
I kind of miss having a mission... do you?
