i think he's just unsure of himself and maybe afraid of what people might think if they find out what he is he seemed kind of skittish about it when i first met him
[ anyway. neon's maybe connecting some dots, and dreading finding out if he's right. ]
[ She's found someplace to sit, to cry, to tell herself no, as if that will magically unmake the monster that is the truth, glaring right through her. Through the tears, she finds the courage to weakly type, ]
[ neon doesn't say say anything else (though he does check his phone once or twice for any response from devon - idiot, where ARE you), but a minute or two later he finds cellar exactly where she mentioned she'd be just a few texts prior.
when he finds her, he approaches her quietly, crouches, and sets a hand lightly on one of her knees, looking up at her. softly, almost murmured: ]
[ There's no hiding that she's been crying, even if she made the effort to hide it. It's nothing new to the guys from the Blood Pact. Cellar's the one who feels too much, who hopes and hopes and gets emotional all over again when said hopes are crushed. With her hand on top of Neon's, fingers curled, her voice makes her seem so small. ]
[ immediately, neon turns his hand slightly so that cellar's can slide right into his. he squeezes gently, runs the pad of his thumb over her knuckles once. instinctively, he wants to reach up with his other hand to wipe at her cheek, even if they're already dry of tears, but he refrains and remains where he's crouched instead.
jace is somewhat of a new name to him, but familiarity isn't important to neon at the moment. whoever they are, they're important enough to cellar to mention them at all, and that tells him enough. ]
I know. [ about iggy, anyway. when neon had reached out to dom, he hadn't expected to find answers so quickly, but better quick than not at all. right? neon waits for a beat, puts his other hand over the back of hers, sandwiching between his palms. ] ... What do you want to do?
[ because if he knows cellar - and he likes to think he does - he knows she won't just sit by and do nothing at all. ]
[ She looks at him, his presence more of a comfort than he probably knows, his hands the anchor she needs to stay in the real world, to keep her from drowning. Then she looks up, lips parted, about to start crying all over again. Helplessly, ]
I don't know. I want Raíz to be here so she can undo all of this — this fucking shit, [ Breathless, sobbing. ] I don't want any of it to be real.
If she's not here by now, it's because something's in her way.
[ he speaks it like it's fact, even though he can't prove anything. but that has to be it, right? why would raiz allow them to be trapped somewhere away from the rest of the agents if she could do something about it? why would she allow one of her own to be killed so violently without consequence? why would she allow cellar's heart to break?
but what could possibly be so powerful that it could stop raiz?
neon shifts closer. he takes his hand off of the top of cellar's and reaches up instead, taking her by the shoulder and pulling her forward so he can wrap an arm around her. ]
We'll figure this out, okay? We tell each other everything, we check in with each other at least once a day. Okay? Devon too.
[ Something powerful enough to build a whole house - or maybe even a universe - around its heart. That lived even though a girl set that heart on fire, that found a way to change time so that they keep moving but stay still outside of this dimension. A theory she's been working on, but all she can think now is that she wishes Raíz would hurry up and save them. ]
Okay. [ A sniff. ] Yeah, w-we need to stick together.

he seems like someone who doesn't make friends easily
